Overview
Our client, a well-established engineering organisation operating within the energy and utilities sector is looking to appoint an Electrical Grid Design Engineer to support the delivery of renewable and power generation projects across the Republic of Ireland. The position is based from the Tralee engineering office and forms part of a growing specialist design team.

The Role
This position will focus on the technical development and optimisation of grid connection solutions, ensuring all designs align with national grid requirements, engineering standards and safety regulations. The role offers exposure to a broad range of renewable technologies and close collaboration with project delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver grid connection designs for renewable energy schemes including wind, solar and battery energy storage

  • Produce electrical design documentation such as single line diagrams, schematics and equipment layouts

  • Undertake network studies including load flow, fault level and protection coordination using recognised industry software

  • Coordinate with transmission and distribution network operators to progress grid applications and achieve compliance with grid codes

  • Provide technical input during planning, consenting and construction stages of projects

  • Identify design and network risks and contribute to effective mitigation solutions

  • Ensure all engineering outputs meet health, safety and environmental standards

  • Support multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and compliantly

Key Requirements

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering (postgraduate qualification desirable)

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in grid design, power networks, utilities or renewable energy projects

  • Strong understanding of Irish grid codes, standards and connection processes

  • Experience using power system analysis tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory or ETAP

  • Knowledge of HV and MV substations, protection schemes and network infrastructure

  • Experience with renewable energy integration and battery storage systems

  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and grid automation would be advantageous

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across project teams

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving capability
